Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in French Open history by defeating world number one Jannik Sinner in an unforgettable men’s singles final.

Down two sets and facing three championship points, the 22-year-old Spaniard fought back to win 4-6, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-2) after five hours and 29 minutes — the longest men’s final ever played at Roland Garros.

Alcaraz's reign looked to be over when Sinner served for the title at 5-3 in the fourth set. However, the Spaniard showcased remarkable mental and physical resilience to turn the match around and secure his fifth Grand Slam title in front of a raucous crowd on Court Philippe Chatrier.

In his post-match speech, Alcaraz praised his opponent:
“The level you have is amazing. It is a privilege to share a court with you in every tournament and in making history.”

He becomes the first male player to win a Grand Slam final after saving match point since Novak Djokovic's legendary win over Roger Federer at Wimbledon in 2019. It also marks the first time Alcaraz has won a match after trailing by two sets.

For Sinner, it was a heartbreaking end to his bid for a maiden French Open title. The 23-year-old Italian was competing in just his second tournament following a three-month suspension for failing two doping tests.

“It’s easier to play than talk now,” said Sinner. “I’m still happy with this trophy. I won’t sleep very well tonight, but it is OK.”

The contest was not only historic in its length but also in its quality, with both players delivering breathtaking shot-making and unwavering determination throughout.
