Jannik Sinner reached the French Open final in only his second tournament after a three-month doping suspension. Despite a valiant five-set effort against Carlos Alcaraz, the Italian star was denied his first Roland Garros crown but showed he is back at the top of the game.

Jannik Sinner narrowly missed out on his first French Open title, but his journey to the final marked a remarkable return to Grand Slam tennis.

The 23-year-old Italian, who had been sidelined for three months after accepting a ban from the World Anti-Doping Agency, reached the final at Roland Garros without dropping a set — a feat unmatched since Rafael Nadal in 2012.

Sinner’s controlled, relentless style has drawn comparisons to Novak Djokovic at his peak, and his performance over the past 18 months has established him as one of the most consistent and dangerous players on the ATP Tour.

Despite off-court scrutiny following his suspension, Sinner maintained his calm demeanor and focus. Returning to action at the Rome Masters and now the French Open, he finished runner-up at both — each time losing to Carlos Alcaraz.

In the final, his serving was tested early with a 12-minute opening game, and although he started strong, he landed only 54% of first serves throughout the match. That inconsistency proved costly, with Alcaraz breaking him seven times and dominating the deciding set tie-break.

There had been concerns about Sinner’s physical condition heading into the lengthy match, but he silenced critics by pushing the contest to five hours and 29 minutes — the longest final in French Open history and the longest match of his career.

Speaking to his team afterward, Sinner said:
“We tried our best today. We gave everything we had. Some time ago, we would have loved to be here, so it's still been an amazing tournament.”

Though denied the title, Sinner’s run to the final confirmed his elite status and hinted at even greater success in the months ahead.
